Support The Monstrumologist Giveaway!

Yesterday, I was saddened to learn that one of my favorite YA series, The Monstrumologist series by Rick Yancey, is being discontinued by Simon and Schuster. Since then, lots of fans have also learned of this and have expressed their shock and displeasure. I really want to spread the word about this amazing series and help promote the efforts of fans to ensure it has a future. So you know what that means. A giveaway!

The giveaway is for a complete set of The Monstrumologist books, all signed and personalized by Rick Yancey. Let's hear it for generous, made-of-awesome authors! The contest is open internationally and ends on August 25.

The rules are super simple. In order to enter, you have to do one thing: Write to Simon and Schuster to urge them to reverse their decision to discontinue publication of the series. You don't have to have read the series to participate--you just have to be willing to defend quality literature for young people.

First, go to the Simon and Schuster contact form here. It's easy to complete and will take you about three seconds. Simply write them a note urging them to reverse their decision to discontinue this series. To make it super easy, you can copy and paste the statement I prepared:

I'm writing to request that you please reverse your decision to discontinue publication of The Monstrumologist series by Rick Yancey. This series has affected readers for its astonishing language, incredibly affecting characters, fast-paced action, and painstakingly-detailed historical world-building. As someone who values quality literature for young people, I implore you to reverse your decision and put your full support behind this incredible series. Thank you.

EDIT: Did you hear the wonderful news? Because of the incredible fan support, Simon and Schuster has decided to publish a fourth book in the Monstrumologist series! Because of that, we no longer need fans to write to Simon and Schuster to request that they reverse their decision to discontinue the series.

Instead, in order to enter the giveaway, please go to the Simon and Schuster contact form and send them a thank you note. If you like, you can use the note I've prepared:

I'm writing to thank you for reversing your decision to discontinue the Monstrumologist series by Rick Yancey. As someone who supports quality literature for young people, this decision is incredibly significant. Thank you for listening to and respecting your readers and supporting such a wonderful series.

That's it! It's on the honor system. But, just so you know, if you lie, I will set a Wendigo on you. I know people. It won't be pretty. If you already emailed Simon and Schuster before today, that still counts as an entry!

Once you've sent your note to Simon and Schuster, complete the contest entry form here

  2. This is a fantastic idea! I had no idea that Simon & Schuster wasn't planning on continuing this series, and I just had someone recommend it to me yesterday! I would seriously hate for this series to end before I even got the chance to start it! Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Stephanie, and I hope that we can all make a difference and convince S&S to change their minds!

Thanks for the giveaway, too! :D

  3. Oh boo. That is so disappointing. I've only read the first book in the series so far, but I loved it to pieces.

  4. I haven't read this series yet but it is up pretty high on my to-read list and I would hate to start reading them, love them, and find out there won't be any more!!!

  5. I'd just heard about this. I hate it when publishers decide to discontinue books and series, especially when they haven't even been published for that long. I've read some of Yancey's other books and enjoyed them, so I wonder why S&S has opted to stop the series?

  6. your efforts to save this series is so heartening! i recently read the whole series and LOVED IT SO MUCH, but they were either borrowed or e-ARCs which will expire upon the book's release date, so i'd love to actually own the series so i can reread it some time soon.

so thank you for the giveaway!<3

  7. Woo, I sent Simon & Schuster that form last night! I would LOVE a set of these books because they are so freaking awesome. I can't wait to read The Isle of Blood.

  8. YOU ROCK!!! I will email them tomorrow. THANK YOU for doing this. Contemplating life without a fourth, fifth sixth book in this series...breaks my heart. ;)

  9. I am totally going to fill out these forms tonight. I plugged the series and contest on my blog as well. I love these books!

  10. Man, that's so brutal.... I haven't read these books yet, but I've only heard amazing things about them. It makes me so upset that random celebrities are getting book deals and selling poorly written trash based on their name recognition alone and then serious authors with incredible talent are getting the shaft. =(

  11. Don't enter me. I already have the books. I'm just writing/commenting to show my support of this wonderful series.

  12. I sent in an email to them about this. I'm not entering though. It's just horrible when they discontinue books that is loved by so many.

  13. I've just sent my e-mail. Just makes me mad that they continue to publish celebrity books that not of quality writing. Very sad.

  14. I haven't read this series yet, but so many people have told me how good it is! I can't believe this! :( I have immediately written Simon and Schuster and I hope all the responses will make them change their mind.

  15. I think I'll post on my blog on Monday to show support as well. I will link everyone to this post to try to rally up some more people! Really great idea Stephanie!

  16. I found your blog via Twitter, and I just think this is such a great idea -- I sent a message to S&S even though I haven't read the series yet; I've been wanting to read it for a while, and have heard so many great things about it. Such a sad development, and hopefully they will change their minds. I'll definitely be going out to buy the books ASAP to show my support. And thank you and thanks to Rick for the opportunity to win personalized copies as well.

  17. When I heard about this, I really didn't want to believe it, but seeing this campaign has really driven home the news that S&S really is dropping The Monstrumologist series. It's awful because it's such an amazing series with so much potential. I've already sent in a message, and I'm going to do my best to link people to this post to rally up some more support. I think it's really great that you're doing this!

  19. I don't need to enter the contest, but just wanted to post in support. This is an amazing series, and it would be a tragedy if it were canceled. I sent a message to S&S.

  20. I bought THREE of the first book for my library, which is unprecedented. it would be shameful to leave this asides at just three, so I definitely emailed Simon and Schuster!

  21. I'm peeved as hell that S&S cancels series like The Monstrumologist (which I haven't read by the way, but keep hearing amazing things about), but will continue to back up titles like Snooki's "A Shore Thing". Ugh.

Anywho, I definitely sent them a (rather long and a little rant-y) e-mail through the form you put here and I congratulate you on your efforts to revive this series! Very awesome. :)

  22. I love the idea. For my part, I'll make sure to talk the books up wherever I can. I've been remiss.

  24. Ugh, come on S&S! I bought multiple copies of the first two books for my library, and I have an order in for #3, and seriously, this series is fantastic. I've sent my e-mail, and thanks Stephanie for publicizing this!

  26. I heard about this plight to save the seires through Aylee. I hope the decision is reconsidered.

Good luck and thanks for the giveaway.

  27. Stephanie, you're incredible for doing this and supporting this series. I just bought The Monstrumologist a few weeks ago and now I can't wait to read it, a giveaway for the worthiest cause, thanks.

  28. Just sent my email and told my friends. I hope they reconsider.

  29. I too just sent my note asking S&S to reconsider their STUPID decision.. I didn't use the word stupid.. :)
I love this series because I'm always on the lookout for good books for guys, even though plenty of girls read them too. I've met Rick Yancey, he's a nice guy, and his idea for this series is awesome and not your average run-of-the-mill story line!

  30. I sent them an email and added a post on my own blog about it.

    Support talent!

  31. Woah. What? I've heard so many good things about the book and I was planning to read it next year. I support it all the way and good luck :D (I entered too xD)

  33. Just wanted to let you know that the fourth Monstrumologist book will be published by Simon and Schuster! :D Just wanted to say thank you for coming up with this giveaway and everything you've done to support this series, this definitely couldn't have happened without you! :D

  34. Thanks for the giveaway, and even more for your efforts to save the series! S&S is publishing the 4th book and hopefully will pub the rest of the series as well. It wouldn't have happened without your support.
